Lovely Spring

Zach - Of Note
  • He's having such fun playing with the neighborhood kids. Teddy has taken quite a leap and is ready to be a playmate, and Jayla is lots of fun! She is so tall too!
  • Zach's penis swelled up again. :( We've decided he's allergic to peppermint that is in our Good Soap. Doctor's visits ensued, and it was a drama-filled day with many trips back and forth to the doctor, pharmacy, daycare. Hanging with Zach at daycare to deliver Advil, I did learn the "Purple Soup" song, so that was a plus!
  • Zach “packed” for TN and surprisingly he got a little of everything. He got sleeping clothes, a pair of underwear, and a shirt and pants. Not bad!
  • I got Zach a fire truck stool! He loves it.
  • Zach did some swinging by himself and mostly got the legs pumping thing right.
  • Zach and some friends have developed alter egos in PJ Masks characters. He is Gekko; Niko is Cat Boy; and Madison is Owlette. What?!
  • Zach is "back in the saddle" with sliding down the pole!
  • Zach's behavioral challenges: 1.) He "punched" one of his classmates in the face. He sometimes thinks hitting is funny. 2.) Zach has pulled down his pants down twice at school and shown off his penis. Frank did a good job of talking to him about it, and frankly we've changed him in public, and he's had the swollen penis issue such that he's pretty comfortable talking about that kind of thing. Maybe he wanted to show that his penis was not swollen...?
  • Took Zach to Peet’s on a Saturday AM (he got up early), and that was super-fun. We walked around the block at the RTC and had a great time exploring. I showed him the building where I work. He loved the construction site. Fun, fun, fun!
  • Merrick's party was a blast. It was fun to talk to the moms of Lizzie, Evie, and Mikayla. Zach wished Merrick, "Happy birthday!" He LOVED his cupcake with blue icing.
Sleep Update
  • He's still going to bed between 8:45-9:15pm, and 9:15pm seems to happen more often. He might sleep until 6:45am, but he does still wake at 5:45am or 6am. :( He's still napping 2 hours at daycare, often. (Gotta catch up somewhere.)
  • On the weekends at home, he'll nap 1-ish hour and then get up to sleep with Frank. He doesn't nap as well at home as he does at daycare, it seems.
  • We have queen beds in all three bedrooms now, and he and I sleep together in a queen bed in his room.
  • We've tried a couple nights - when he's been REALLY uncooperative - to have him fall asleep on his own to mixed results.
  • Zach will say, "Mommy, can we switch?" when we're sleeping together. He wants my side of the bed!
Zach's Words & Songs
  • When Zach and I got home from Baltimore, he told Frank that I'd “done a good job today.”
  • Zach wished everyone "Happy Easter Day" at Dogfish. He's adorable.
  • Zach says, “I like walking with you, Mommy.” We walk one way to school almost every day!
  • In dance class, Zach learned to bow. When he shows you how he can bow, he says “Thank you,” and it sounds accented and adorable.
  • “Mommy, look at that bird, it's so beautiful!” A cardinal. The trees were “wonderful”; the walk was “wonderful”! Amazing kid.
  • Zach noted that my Fordam family birthstone necklace has the same colors as his favorite golden raisin and berry mix.
  • Zach made me art that he keeps telling me about, and it’s orange and purple, “our favorite colors.”
Susan & Frank
  • Date night dearth! We had to cancel one because I was sick. Then, we went to see a movie, The Long Shot (okay), and Frank had to leave the theater because he was "on call" and the theater had no service. We did have tasty Vietnamese at Four Sisters, though.
  • A lovely Thursday evening, we went over to Red's Table, and I saw some GoCanvas colleagues. I seem them everywhere: At Beerchase (Troy), at the farmer's market (Sara), at the movie (Mary).
Good Food & Drink
  • Great GoCanvas food; Blake's wife brought in oatmeal or peanut butter or some kind of cookie that was awesome!
  • GoCanvas Spirits continues to be a fun group!
  • Amanda brought me her family's Passover leftovers (pureed carrots, brisket, and a cooked apple walnut dish)
  • Lots of great food/restaurant recommendations from Sara, Chris, and Amanda.
    Zach put mac &
    cheese on his pizza
  • Hibachi steakhouse was a hit! Check out the video!
  • I stopped at YeeHaw and had their Scotch Ale with my lunch that had been packed for the trail in TN! They played Jason Isbell at the brewery. It was great.
  • We made Jim's “magical fruit salad” with Greek yogurt and sugar free vanilla syrup
  • Crooked Run two weekends in a row! Yum!
  • Asparagus and mushroom pasta with parmesan and fresh mozzarella
  • In season strawberries
  • Rick and Susan's Beltain celebration feast of meaty stew that Rick cooked over his fire pit in a huge cast iron pot
  • Waffles for dinner at Auntie Em's
  • Everything pretzel and breakfast salad for Mother's Day at Lake Anne Coffee House
  • A good Territory dinner of pesto pork, potatoes, broccoli, olives. Yum!
  • Low willpower weak. Hmm....chocolate chip scone from Peet's, peanut butter pretzels and peanut M&Ms (GoCanvas' snacks), and sour cream and onion chips
  • Cava is pretty tasty! I've had it twice now, and yum, yum, yum!
Visits with

  • Zach and I made an excursion to Baltimore! We had lunch at Red Canoe, and then met up with Kathleen, Brian, and then Jacqueline and Russell at Lake Motebello. Kathleen and Brian's party was fun, and Zach made friends with Nick, 11 years old, and his mom. Ansel tackled Zach multiple times.
  • Drinks with Katie
  • Visit from Grandad
    Sycamore Shoals Swag
  • Trip to TN was great: Pretty drive out into the mountains on Friday night and wonderful cooler weather for most of the trip. Zach got Florence and his airplane at Brugh's Mill. Zach LOVED all of Jim and Terri’s textured mats and especially liked the shower curtain in the Tree room bathroom. Gamma and Bob took Zach to Sycamore Shoals State Park, and he got a junior ranger vest. See above. A really beautiful hike to balds mostly on the AT on the TN/NC line. Peanuts and blue jays. Running all over the Broadmore. Meals together. Check out all the pics!
  • Emily and Andrew: beer tasting and nachos!
  • HH with Candice was nice. She's such a great professional complement!
  • Zach had a blast with Gamma and Bob on a rainy weekend, and I met them at Cave Ridge for a great Mother's Day excursion!

  • Kathleen by phone
Fun Stuff (Personal and Professional)
  • On Earth Day, I went out to Fleetwood Farm Winery and got a glass of wine and read The Power of Habit. Good stuff. Belief that things will get better...that there is something bigger out there are important to break out of habits.
  • Chatted with Angeline and she gave me some Articulate Rise tips for my Leadership Institute module. Love that continued professional collaboration.
  • Kicked off my Leadership Institute to lots of kudos. Yay! Got sick with a stomach bug-type thing the night before my LI. I felt bad the rest of the week. Then Frank caught it while we were in Tennessee, and then we all got Zach's cold or allergies or something. We've been a little under the weather for most of the last two weeks.
  • Judie got me a book, The Hate You Give, as thanks for my LI work. So nice and a good book!
  • People Team gatherings abound. We went to Dave & Busters. So weird, but I got to play skee ball.
  • Really enjoyed the Fresh Air interview of Patricia Arquette while driving to my beautiful hiking trail in TN.
  • The People Team watched Brene Brown's Netflix special together as a team. Great! Be vulnerable, be courageous, talk about it even if it comes out wrong. Use, “the story I'm telling myself….” I brought up some diversity concerns. That was hard and good.
  • Race for Hope!
  • Amanda did our walk and talk Dev conversation and said, “I’m so glad I work for a feminist.” Love it!
  • Good strengths cohort of Emily, Lauren, Megan, and Andy!
  • Buti yoga was great. Thank you, Stephanie!
    Beautiful Tennessee/North Carolina Mountain View
