Great Weeks!

Zach - Of Note
  • "I wanted to do it myself," peel an orange, dress himself, etc.
  • One day we put on his white shirt for dance; it was backwards and inside out. He took it off and tried again. Same thing! When we picked him up from school, it was on right. We asked who switched his outfit, and he said, “Ms. Colleen.” Of course. She does not abide that kind of shenanigans.
  • Zach dressed in his PJs and luckily it was pajama day!
  • He dressed himself in completely on his own in blue, blue, blue.

  • He started peeing standing up because "...that's what Daddy does," and the other boys at school, it would seem.
  • We walk to daycare, and one morning we took our binoculars and “followed” the jungle monkey to daycare.
  • Mostly, we wear our fireman's jacket, though, and he blows the whistle for me to start and stop. Sometimes I intentionally don't listen, so he can say, "Mommy, you're not listening to me." I’m supposed to run when he blows the whistle and then stop the next time he blows it. One morning, he kept saying, “Why didn’t you wait for me?” Then, he ran up behind me, blew the whistle, I stopped, and he ran into me, fell down and into the road. Oh, no. I picked him up; no problem.
  • For the past week+, we go to the "pole park" on our walk to school. He missed the pole one morning (and was fine) and got right back out playing the next morning. Good for him!
  • Zach is really good at directions. On the drive to Savage Mill, he said, "Mommy, is this the way to Clemyjontri?" It was. "Mommy, is this the way to Grandad's?" It was. When M&D picked him up he knew the hotel was near the Ethiopian restaurant. Wow!
Sleep Update
  • He went through this period of 7-10 days where he actually slept until 7 and 7:30am while going to bed at 9pm as usual. It must have been a growth spurt. It didn't last long.
  • Zach admonishes me, “Mommy, you don’t get out of bed without me.”
  • He also likes to switch places with me and tries to steal my pillow. #crowding me.
Zach's Words & Songs
Dancing

  • Zach speaks nonsense and thinks/says he's speaking Spanish or a foreign language. It can quickly get annoying.
  • Zach says, “I love you, Mommy, no matter what.” Awww….
  • Took Zach to Frying Pan Park. When we took the tractor ride, he said, we're going into the “forest.”
  • For a few days, he insisted I sing from the "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" songbook. One morning, I played it on Alexa too.
  • Zach has internalized Daniel Tiger’s “When you want to roar, take a deep breath and count to four: one, two, three, four.”
  • Zach saw our neighborhood fox and said, “It’s a pretty fox.”
  • When Amelia babysat last night, they couldn't get the tv to work. Horrors! So, she sang to him from her musicals repertoire. Love it!
  • Introduced Zach to the word "shenanigans" to describe antics before bed time. He hasn't yet been able to pronounce it right himself. :)
Susan & Frank
  • Dinners out at Red's Table and Enyate. Thanks, Amelia.
  • A 5 mile walk around Chevy Chase while Jeff babysat
  • A hike at River Bend, good conversation, and sushi for dinner after Enyate was closed since they ran out of injera!
  • A trip to Crooked Run and Senor Ramon's, dinner in, and a run and brunch at home
Good Food
  • Gamma's spaghetti prepared by Auntie Em. Yum!
  • North Carolina sesame bread
  • White bean, kale, basil, chicken soup with roasted garlic and Frank's hot sauce and Raleigh bread store super-dense croutons. DELICIOUS!
  • GoCanvas potluck was AWESOME. It was small, but mighty. Everyone brought great food, and I tried the desserts: salted caramel Brownies and cheesecake brownie? Main meal highlights: Persian chickpea dish, everyone loved my carrot dish, tomato avocado salad, chicken Satay. Yum! Yum! Yum. After, I started a Slack channel (potluckrecipes) and Sara said she’d nominate me for an impact rockstar award! Teehee.
  • Emily and Andrew came over last night, and it was a really fun time. I made pasta with caprese salad from Balducci's and the tuna cakes from Territory. It was a big hit!
  • Weird Bros has a honey cinnamon latte!
  • Make your own pizzas with Aliana and Nathan and family.
  • Made dinner, chicken goulash, when Zach was at Gamma and Bob's for the weekend. Delightful!
Visits with
Hance & Zach rock climbing

  • Hikes/ walks with Auntie Em
  • Good time with Kathleen and Brian at Stone Tower, Senor Ramon's, Crooked Run, and Carbon Leaf at Tally Ho. They played Miss Hollywood and Lake of Silver Bells; the best show since the fabled one at Bells Brewery in October 2012
  • Gamma and Bob had Zach two weekends. On the first one we picked up Zach and visited Muse Vineyard. Close, beautiful, fun. Zach got his first splinter. :(
  • Call with Yvette!
  • Met Auntie Em, Mom, and Dad at the Hampton Inn. M&D picked him up, and Zach got to swim! Frank joined us, and we all had a carpet picnic for dinner! (Zach's Fireman Sam swimsuit)
  • Met up with Mary Kay and Hance at Savage Mill on a Sunday morning (rock climbing photo)
  • Katie - two walking dates!
  • Nice chat with Candice
Fun Stuff (Personal and Professional)
  • Lots of SCORE support (Julie, Laura, Steve, Eileen, John Q., and Eileen), particularly SCM; he's my mentor. :)
  • I love my walk to work and taking a look at the Sugarloaf Mtn view at work!
  • Amanda and I met several times before she started, and she's been an amazing addition while also pumping 3x/day!
  • Training convos at work have been so awesome and interesting and instructive!
  • Taco Tuesday and cocktails with Noelle, Lindsey, and Amanda led to some feminist oversharing between me and Amanda.
  • Starting my own Slack channel and messaging myself is changing my life!
  • Judie loaned me The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and it's great
  • Went to an Ellevate event with Jordan and Rae to hear two women speak about Courageous Conversations.
  • GoCanvas coordinated a visit to Sunset Hills Winery. It was great. Chip complimented my outfit; chatted with Lauren and a good crew of my Leadership Institute folks.
  • Leadership quotes for the Leadership Institute was more fun than I expected! Teresa, Katie, Ben complimented my efforts!
  • Ran into Troy and his family at Bear Chase. Tough drive in the rain, but a fun night. Thanks, Dawn for recommending!
  • Read an article about forest bathing. It sounds amazing.
