Lava Lake Hike, Gallatin National Forest

Today we left Big Sky, MT. We had a fantastic time at Big Sky Arts Council's Music in the Mountains Festival last night. We saw Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, and they put on a great show.

This morning, we enjoyed our breakfast number two on the "voucher program" at Chet's at the Huntley Lodge - surprisingly great breakfasts: good salsa, fresh ingredients, and very well made home fries.

After breakfast, we packed up and headed to Lava Lake for a 6 mile round trip. The trail followed the Gallatin River for a while and brought us to a lovely lake view. See below. A chipmunk was circling hoping to be fed, and Frank was not happy with him...

  1. Sounds like changing the trip worked out real well. You wonder if there are a lot of people feeding the chipmunks. Be glad it wasn't a larger animal that wanted to be fed.
    Enjoying your thoughts and pictures.
