T-19 Days

T-19 days and counting. It's hard to believe we'll be on the road three weeks from today. So much left to do and figure out! The summer of perpetual spring is awaiting us!

Today's task: Chicago apartment

The choice is between Hyde Park and South Loop. Living in Hyde Park would be like spending a year at the University of Chicago and living in South Loop would be like spending a year in Chicago.

Hyde Park - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Chicago
There's a world famous museum on campus, a Frank Lloyd Wright house, an ice skating rink, a road called the "Midway Plaisance" (that's just too much fun to say), and the Obamas' Kenwood mansion, not to mention the other mansions. But it's 20 minutes south of downtown, only really accessible by bus or commuter Metra rail. It's a small and insular community, surrounded by not-so-great neighborhoods.

South Loop
Just below the heart of downtown, there's a neighborhood feel here surrounded by downtown living. We found the elementary school, grocery stores, and other basic shopping needs. The subway is close allowing access to downtown and points west and north that are worth exploring. Living here would be very different than our current Oakenshawe digs, which we'll need because my Oakenshawe digs are pretty close to perfect.
